Howard Lutnick said, and I quote, "You've heard the president talk about trillions and trillions of factories being built in America."
I did the math, interpreting "trillions and trillions" as just one trillion, and assuming that these factories are not stacked on top of each other.
Google says "The United States has a total area of approximately 3,794,083 square miles. This includes both land and water areas. The land area alone is 3,531,925 square miles."
There are 27,880,000 square feet in a square mile.
If these factories are built everywhere in the USA, even over water, with nothing else anywhere except factories and no space between them, the average area of each of these one trillion factories would be 106 square feet, equal to a square 10 feet, 3.4 inches on a side.
If these factories are built on all of the land in the USA but not over water, with nothing else anywhere except factories and no space between them, the average area of each of these one trillion factories would be 98 square feet, equal to a square 9 feet, 11 inches on a side.

SEC. LUTNICK: The country is focused on- you realize, trillions of dollars of factories are going to be built in America. That's huge GDP. The factories being built in America are huge GDP--
Lutnick must have gotten carried away while being interviewed today and omitted the words "of dollars."

(10,251 posts)some pretty stupid ones too. That comment he made about his mother in law’s social security check stands as one of the stupidist comments I have ever heard. I don’t expect anyone to say anything that will top that.
This is just more of his run of the mill lying and he’s just not good at it.

(2,343 posts)This is a great example. Had Lutnick said, "thousands of factories will be built...", there would have been an uproar. The media would be all over it, airing segments and interviews about how the public has been told these lies too many times for them to be believed. Now, will trillions of factories about to built, it becomes believable. Maga cheers.

(124,444 posts)made here as we speak, but that is utter nonsense.
However, assuming that the nutcase is repeating what he heard, I have several questions. First, does land area include all the areas of the mountains. or just thei area of their base? I mean, there is a lot of land here in the West, but a great deal of it is vertical. And, second, where would all the people live?
