It is tough, but several of our family are with her now. She is struggling, but it close to the end.
Thank you for all your support and prayers.

(86,209 posts)Your thoughts of love and concern will help and comfort her and ease her way if her departure is near.
And who knows? Ive known elders who received last rites, and then survived for an unexpected extra amount of time.
If and when it happens, imanamerican63, just know were here and thinking of you AND her and the rest of your family. It means you may have an extra Guardian Angel getting ready for new wings. Please do keep us posted - if possible.

(2,219 posts)but please remember that for all the prayers and energies being sent your way, If you're not there yet, please trust that those same prayers and energies can go from you to your mom as well. So as you drive to her, please talk to her, pray for her/with her and help her on her journey "Home".
I pray that these events bring your family close together to support one another through this difficult time.
Love, John

(55,882 posts)I had to say goodbye to my mom five years ago, and between Mother's Day and it being close to her birthday, I've been thinking about her a lot today.
In her last days, we saw her at times reaching out to people we couldn't see. I don't think she was hallucinating. We cross over to love and reunions, and those who are about to cross can often see the loved ones waiting for them. We found comfort in that.
Last rites can be very comforting, too, for believers in that faith. And as was mentioned in a reply above, it isn't unusual for people to recover after being given last rites. The aunt I lost last summer had first been given last rites years earlier.
Prayers for comfort and strength for you and all your family as your mom crosses to love, peace, and reunions, home in heaven.

(30,157 posts)and feels positively unbearable. It helped me to try to limit my focus to small blocks of time. Just making it through this hour, this evening, this one task. Little bits at a time until I could do more.
Our thoughts are with you.

(6,988 posts)That was a couple of years ago, she has tenacity to cheat death for some reason. It's rough, plain and simple. Friend of mine had to give them to a relative of his, ours are different than most religions, its very emotional, said it was the hardest thing he ever had to do. Most of the time a minister in our faith is available, but not always, they are volunteer, don't get paid for it and have regular jobs.
Plus side, when they can show up, they usually wander around the hospital and ask people if they want to be prayed for, which they usually appreciate, even though its in Russian.
I've lost a number of relatives and it sucks every time. Don't be afraid to get counseling afterwards, religious or professionally. It's never easy.

(246 posts)This human life is tough. Were wired to love others, but we inevitably eventually experience the pain of loss. Yet the solace of other connections can help. I hope you are able to turn to friends and family for comfort and support.

(4,570 posts)The great love you and your family are showing for your mother must surely mean a great deal to her in this difficult time. And you helped her get her last rites. That must mean a lot to her, too. May she have a peaceful passing into eternal love.
