On May 12, 1775, Capt. Seth Warner led the Green Mountain Boys not involved with the attack of Fort Ticonderoga up the east side of Lake Champlain to near Crown Point Road. There they crossed Lake Champlain and continued to the British garrison capturing the Crown Point fortification as well as 9 men and 10 women and children.

Capture of Crown Point meant that the fledgling American army that surrounded the British in Boston had a very large source of artillery and related materiel. Of the 39 cannon taken to Boston in the winter of 1775-76 by Henry Knox's forces, 29 originated at Crown Point. During the summer of 1775, Benedict Arnold ordered repairs to barracks and later it became the staging area for the American army that was to invade Canada ...
