Amazon did not allow talent to opt out of working on Melania for political reasons, a new report alleges.
That order came straight from Amazons leadership, forcing studio staff to choose between working on an absurdly expensive documentary about Melania Trump or risk losing their jobs, three sources told The New York Times
Such a mandate is perhaps why Rolling Stone reports an eye-popping two-thirds of Melanias New York crew asked for their names not be added to the films credits.
They were told that the project was mandated by the companys leadership and that employees could not opt out of working on the film for political reasons, the Times reported.

(2,434 posts)years ago, Land's End required all their employees to attend a speech (on the clock at Land's End offices) by a politician campaigning. I can't remember the details. It might have been W Bush or Dick Cheney. I don't know it this was ever litigated, but there were a lot of angry employees, especially because this betrayed the kind of brand Land's End had developed over the years. I think this debacle happened while the dimwits at Sears owned the company and drove it into the ground.

(52,735 posts)For some reason, I thought of La Strada, this Fellini film, and a scene where Anthony Quinn is going around on this motorcycle and Giulietta Masina is the feeble-minded girl with him, playing the trombone. He got to the point where he couldnt put up with her anymore and left her by the side of the road while she was sleeping. Later in the film, he sees this woman hanging out the wash and singing the melody that the girl used to play on the trombone. He asks, Where did you hear that song? And she tells him it was this little girl who had showed up in town and nobody knew where she was from, and later she died. That night, Quinn goes to a bar and gets in a fight. Hes drunk and ends up howling at the stars on the beach. To me, that was the feeling at the end of Bobby McGee. The two-edged sword that freedom is. He was free when he left the girl, but it destroyed him. Thats where the line Freedoms just another name for nothing left to lose came from.
The first time I heard Janis Joplins version was right after she died. Paul Rothchild, her producer, asked me to stop by his office and listen to this thing she had cut. Afterwards, I walked all over L.A., just in tears. I couldnt listen to the song without really breaking up. So when I came back to Nashville, I went into the Combine [Publishing] building late at night, and I played it over and over again, so I could get used to it without breaking up. [Songwriter and keyboardist] Donnie Fritts came over and listened with me, and we wrote a song together that night about Janis, called Epitaph.

(15,069 posts)Many times, when I go to a company's website to buy something, the only place to purchase is Amazon. So I try another brand until I can find something. Sometimes that's not possible. Go to a ratings site to buy something, and they always, always link to Amazon.
I thought eBay would be a safe place to go, but it turns out that many eBay sellers are also Amazon sellers. When I see a package coming from Amazon, I think, "WTF? I avoided Amazon and ended up paying more just to get Amazon anyway?" Of course, that seller goes on my blacklist, but if there's a way to know ahead of time, I'd like to know.
Still, we're doing fairly well avoiding them. It is not easy when your local stores carry squat of what you need.

(52,735 posts)I bought something on eBay recently and it was delivered to my house my Walmart. WTF?
VTderry
(95 posts)After you bought your item on ebay, that seller just ordered it from Walmart and had it shipped directly to you.
At a minimum, it's "retail arbitrage" which is a violation of ebay policy. At worst, it could be "triangulation fraud" involving stolen credit cards and possibly putting you at risk.
See:

and
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/Walmart-delivered-Ebay-order-Possible-Triangulation-fraud/td-p/33617488
I know all this because my husband had an ebay purchase arrive from Walmart last month. He'd seen that the item was cheapest at Walmart but we haven't given them a penny in decades. He was happy to find it on ebay at an only slightly higher price. Then we saw the return address.

(3,491 posts)Get on the 'net, look up the theaters near you, see which ones are showing "Melania" then check the show times for seats.
I did that to our big multiplex -- Melania starts tomorrow, Jan 30, five showings daily. I checked Saturday, usually a very busy day. One showing had five seats reserved, two had ZERO each, and two had ONE each. And, NO, I did not make reservations.
I am, however, tempted to print a bunch of copies of that famous photo of her lying nekkid on a sofa -- print 'em on legal-size paper -- then quietly post them around the theater entrance.
