ICE vs. Virginia: A Canadian billionaire comes to the rescue
I posted a comment about this yesterday -- here's an update.
BACKGROUND
ICE wants to purchase a 500,000 sq ft empty warehouse in the community of ASHLAND in HANOVER COUNTY, VIRGINIA, where they would establish a concentration camp.
Last Wednesday (Jan 28) the Hanover County Board of Supervisors met. The usually sleepy BOS meeting attracted a crowd of about 700 -- filled the meeting room, filled all the hallways, spilled out into the parking lot. Except for a couple of MAGAts (who soon slinked away) the crowd was all in against ICE and they unloaded on the Supervisors.
The Hanover Supervisors voted unanimously for a statement against the ICE purchase as well as investigating if use as a concentration camp violated zoning rules.
TODAY:
Now, today, Jan 30, CANADA comes to the rescue of Hanover County: The Canadian billionaire who owns the building told ICE "NO!! "
Jim Pattison Developments has announced it will not sell an industrial building in Ashland, Va., that was set to be turned into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility.
The development company, owned by B.C. billionaire and philanthropist Jim Pattison, sent out a single-sentence statement Friday, saying, "The transaction to sell our industrial building in Ashland, Virginia will not be proceeding."
