I awakened at 2:30 this morning and found myself watching MSNOW reruns and drinking coffee, and I began to consider a context which I had not ever explored. To wit: what events occurred which markedly changed my viewpoint overnight?
The first was awakening early - again - on a November morning in 1960, turning on the tv and watching the network correspondents still tabulating the votes from the Presidential election the day before. As a seven year-old it was an Aha! experience which initiated my interest in politics -it made me understand that the farm report and cartoons were less important than what was going on in America. This is quite a realization for a child. I had awakened because I had sensed the upset and nervousness in the house t by e night before, watching my parents react to the election returns. That anxiety woke me out of a sound sleep -I recall the moment distinctly.
Next was the Cuban missile Crisis wherein my mother and father sat down with me and told me in no uncertain terms that our lives and our way of life was under threat and if they told me to do something quickly, to do it immediately and without wasting time or pausing to discuss it, which was something I was prone to do. For the first time in my life I saw the intensity in their faces and the fear, sensing it the way an animal senses fear in an individual who comes upon it. To this day, my stomach drops when I recall this incident.
Then the assassinations. Watching the news coverage of the JFK death convinced me that I was being lied to. So much of the information was conflicting and many individuals interviewed were clearly disingenuous. This was a stunning moment from which grew my avocation of being an assassination buff, initiated by the publication of Mark Lanes Rush to Judgment. My cynicism emanates from this moment in time.
And then 9/11. Enough said.
But nothing, nothing has affected me as much as the observation of a mentally deficient, mentally ill, malignant narcissist and pathological liar attempting to decimate the very foundation of this Nation. For me it is the equivalent of placing a toddler at the controls of a fully-loaded 747 and telling him to land the plane. I knew we were to have a catastrophe and if we are to survive, it will only be by the thinnest of margins.
We are watching him mentally and physically decompensate, the rate of such is increasing, and that, my dear friends, is why I cant sleep. I have come full-circle.

That said, take care of yourself. Have the first aid kit handy and live to fight (tomorrow, which is today)

America has not had a fascist takeover, as other countries have had, using the well-worn fascist playbook. Demonizing some minority to gain power.
We can and must stop it. Today!
I lived through all the same things you mentioned. And this shitshow as well.
Iranians are laying mines because Trump and company were laying minors
Say it loud and clear.

(24,936 posts)Go down the list. Immigrants, not those precious South African "victims" of "White Genocide" are not considered white.
Italian immigrants were considered "non-white"

This so-called "privilege" of color, nationalism, gender, religion, and so on, is the curse of mankind.
And the wealthy and power-hungry use that "privilege" to rob, rape and murder, while pulling the wool.
And cover up.

(149 posts)Don't forget the assassination broadcast live of the Vietnamese Military officer brains blown out that changed the war outlook.
They were brutal and ignorant back then too but learned to stop showing on TV what happens at the receiving end of OUR rifles.
My awakening came realizing we walked through the door to the atomic age ,open air testing, celebrating OUR new death science and open air assassinations it was a wild time to grow up.
And the what if of losing Kennedy haunts me to this day the difference between hope, and reality we had to learn. George HW Bush Dallas CIA station chief claimed he doesn't remember where , I remember, he was when he heard the news but.....

(28,279 posts)GHW Bush is the only person in America who did not recall where he was when he heard that President Kennedy was shot. Likely he was standing in front of the Book Depository, if you look at the photo.

(4,410 posts)...or provide a reference for me to read. It sounds like I missed some important history. I was 6 years old when Kennedy was assassinated and not very motivated to research beyond what Dick and Jane did. I have read at least one work on the assassination, I couldn't even tell you what it was, but I would love to learn more.

(149 posts)Films aren't alternate facts, remember that.
The Zapruder films show what happened.
I remember Oswald saying "Jack you son of a bitch "as Ruby shoved the gun in his gut ,on live TV.
Seems to have been cut out of the recent replays.

(4,045 posts)... shows, beyond the remotest shadow of a doubt, that Kennedy was hit by a second round when he suddenly jerks backward. I've owned firearms all my adult life, and I have a pretty clear understanding of ballistics. We've been lied to for 63 years about every aspect of that horrible event. I was 16 when it happened, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
To begin with, there is the officially acknowledged fact that a panicked Jackie Kennedy tried to retrieve the back of her husband's skull from the limo's trunk lid. That proves that there had to be an exit wound in the back of his head. The most basic laws of physics say that it can't possibly happen any other way. The first round hit him in the neck from behind, and he pitched forward. To the best of my knowledge, no autopsy photos have ever been released. Apart from not wishing the public to endure seeing such grisly pictures, the evil filth that perpetrated this obscene crime didn't want anyone to see the entrance wound in the front of his head, which would have proved the second-shooter-on-the-grassy-knoll theory for an absolute, irrefutable fact. With that, their entire web of lies would fall apart.
I am not a conspiracy theorist. America has been scammed for decades over this crime. The one fact elucidated above is the thread that unravels the whole convoluted coverup. But nobody cares anymore. With the neck-deep swamp of lies to which we are all subjected every fucking day, it's easy to understand why a 63-year-old murder isn't exactly top-of-mind these days. But all of this shit exists in a continuum, and the same diseased mindset that allowed Kennedy's assassination is alive and well today. Just read the Cliff Notes version of Project 2025, if you can stomach it, and despair.

(149 posts)CIA did bay of pigs behind Kennedy's back trying to force support after the fact.
Kennedy swore afterwards to break the CIA into a thousand pieces.
It was a fight to the death on our behalf.

(4,045 posts)... The CIA wasn't even 20 years old then, and they were still quite full of themselves, having evolved from the WWII-era OSS. They were involved in lots of extracurricular activities that never saw the light of day.
This was the same bunch that wanted to murder innocent Americans so they could blame it on Castro in order to justify an invasion, but Eisenhower slapped them down. Hard.
We mustn't forget that J. Edgar Hoover hated Jack Kennedy even more than the CIA did, and he had his grubby little fingers in everything. He also hated Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Those dots connect themselves.

Horrific. ⚠ Extreme violence warning. ⚠

"We" repeated the brutality with one Tomahawk missile.
What have we learned from history? That greed, hate and lies sway people. And we repeat the cycle.

(11,029 posts)I have leaned that greed, lies and hate are the preferred operating parameters in a modern society.
We have had ample reason and ability to remove their influence. But, we can't seem to do it.
Because, deep inside, I don't believe that we want to remove it.
People keep saying how scared they are these days.
I am not scared.
I am FURIOUS.
It is too bad that others cannot see that we should be very angry about this crap, not cowering in our basements trying to figure out how to keep the methodology while removing the creation that said behavior made real.
It all needs to go. Irregardless of the minor damage that will happen while removing that bile from our society.

(4,045 posts)... are not mutually exclusive; it can be an amalgam of both. You're both right, just viewing the problem from different perspectives. Oh, and OldBaldy, my dear friend, for future reference, "irregardless" isn't a word; it's a double negative. Both the prefix and the suffix are negatives. A minor grammatical point, to be sure, but I know that you're a fellow who likes to get things right.

(53,862 posts)"woulda, coulda, shoulda" variety. Of late, however, if I happen to be awake and hear a plane traveling over our rural area, I can't help but worry it might be payback. Trump is making this country a very unsafe to be. Dangerous within and dangers hovering on the edges. Last night our electricity went out and if it hadn't been expected from high winds, I would have wondered if Iran was disrupting our power grid. Now how do I wish you a happy birthday???? LOL.
