NBC Poll: Israel's standing plummets among Democrats, fueling primaries on the left

More registered voters view Israel negatively than positively in the latest NBC News poll, driven by change among independents and especially Democrats.

American voters’ feelings on Israel and the Palestinian territories have shifted dramatically in recent years, in a sea change that is transforming the Democratic Party and shaping its primaries.

A new NBC News poll underscores the depths of the shift. More registered voters view Israel negatively than positively, a change from a few years ago. The change has been especially pronounced among independents and Democrats, fueling divided congressional primaries in 2026 and potentially shaping the party’s 2028 presidential contest.

When asked whether their sympathies lie more with Israelis or Palestinians, 40% of registered voters say they side more with the Israelis, while 39% choose the Palestinians. The split stood at 45% for Israelis and 13% for Palestinians when NBC News asked the question more than a decade ago, in November 2013. But while two-thirds of Republicans side with the Israelis, similar to 2013, two-thirds of Democrats now side with the Palestinians.

The data also outlines major changes in how many of those groups view Israel and a Palestinian state generally. Now, almost 60% of Democrats and almost 50% of independents view Israel negatively, a change from when NBC News last asked this question in November 2023, shortly after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel. Those shifts contributed to the plurality negative view on Israel in the latest survey.

(MS NOW) "There is no doubt the American Israel Public Affairs Committee has a great deal of power and influence. Yet in the Democratic Party at least, a dwindling number of candidates want to be publicly associated with the country’s most prominent pro-Israel political organization. It is no surprise, then, that multiple news organizations, including The New York Times and Chicago’s WBEZ, have found links between AIPAC’s donors, registered agents and vendors and new super PACs with innocuous-sounding names like Elect Chicago Women and Affordable Chicago Now. Those groups have poured at least $21 million into open-seat congressional primaries in and around Chicago, blanketing the airwaves with ads that don’t mention Israel at all."

and the way they tried to disguise it. dan biss, after all, is jewish and kat is palestinian.
and robin kelly was the only 1 to call gaza a genocide.

it saddens me that aipac is the poster child for dark money when most of it is from far more evil ppl. but…

Perhaps Hegseth might learn what happens when "no quarter" is actually put into effect--in total disregard to civilians, whether innocent children or adults-- and likewise with total disregard to the Geneva Conventions and other agreed-upon rules of engagement.

Under Netanyahu's corrupt leadership, IDF is but a single marching war crime army. Does that obviate and justify Hamas' horrific acts? Hell no. but one hardly justifies the other.

WAR CRIMES.. Thy name is HAMAS, HEZBOLLAH, IRANIAN NATIONAL GUARD..

But likewise, Trump administration and increasingly probable, our military under Hegseth, but for the humanity and honor of the Generals... And, Israel under Netanyahu has already been discussed.

I'm done trying to defend the indefensible. I hope to hell all are.
