Several Cinco de Mayo parades and festivals across the United States have been canceled, with organizers in multiple cities citing concerns about immigration enforcement, alongside financial challenges.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that commemorates Mexico’s victory over Napoleon III’s French army in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It is widely observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, often marked by parades and festivals in communities with large Mexican American populations.

The Trump administration’s aggressive mass deportation and immigration enforcement policies have sparked widespread concern in immigrant communities, with organizers of several Cinco de Mayo parades and festivals citing fear of ICE activity, raids, and detentions as a reason for reduced participation or outright cancellations.

In Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, organizers canceled the annual Cinco de Mayo parade for a second consecutive year.

The Cermak Road Chamber of Commerce and Casa Puebla said in a statement, “many families are experiencing fear and uncertainty due to increased immigration enforcement actions and the ongoing threat of raids.”

to come to my house and hide if ICE ever shows up here. I know how to not answer the door when a cop shows up without a warrant because I have done it.

But still my one neighbor and their family used to be outside all the time. Now I never see them.

Edit to add: I tell people I don't care what there status is and I really don't.
