Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell today I saw regular unleaded gas at $5 per gallon for the first time ever
while on my to grocery shop where I paid 30% more for the usual weekly items. This is insane. On top of that, my medical insurance went up $90/month. While these cost may not affect the affluent very much, the rest of America has to be freaking out. The rich are getting richer while the rest of us get the finger.

(15,552 posts)Near a Walmart anchored shopping mall that caters to office drone/working class type of families.
In an "Affordable" area of San Diego, full of 1960's built rentals and Southern California Tiki apartments that need serious refurbishment (much more work than the paint, new carpet and appliance work they typically get every new tenant)
Yeah, there's going to be a bunch of angry parents unable to take the family off roading or camping this summer

(2,535 posts)gas costing 18 cents a gallon, and diesel 12 cents a gallon when I was 12...........years later, during my late teens, it had climbed to 28 cents a gallon, and costing under three bucks to fill my VW Bug's ten gallon tank...............

(3,035 posts)They were all mechanical number displays that only did cents and tenths of a cent. All the pumps had to have a piece of paper with the $1 taped ahead of the price per gallon.

(13,420 posts)there were a Gulf, Esso, Sunoco, and Texaco stations battling out gas prices on each corner of a city intersection. It was nuts.

(12,878 posts)Almost $7.00 for diesel. The downtown dining districts are becoming ghost towns as folks opt to stay home and save gas. The bus and rail system has seen a steep upsurge in ridership. Its 'frogs in boiling water' times. Our society is so highly dependent on cheap gas that a seismic change is inevitable. And think, 3 more years of Trump!

(2,535 posts)our bus and light rail ridership is declining every year, due to mismanagement of the RTD..........
We were sold a giant load of crap about both starting 20 years ago............
The price of Gas/Diesel is hitting us from all directions, not just our personal vehicles........Every thing in this nation moves by Trucks, Trains, Airplanes, and ships...........If you think the 30% increase in groceries and other things is already creaming you, just wait for this oil situation to clobber those prices BIG TIME.......

(2,535 posts)a few weeks ago I paid 200 bucks just to fill up the tank on my diesel pickup, I need to fill it up again, and I don't even want to guess what it will cost........

(9,587 posts)They sense that a bill could be coming due at the polls as this continues. They know Trump's policies are trash. They know his leadership is null. They know he is psychotic and vengeful and they still don't care as long as it allows them to be "special" and keeps the lower classes at bay.

(7,573 posts)But diesel is around $6.
That means EVERYTHING is going to cost more since it's hauled by trucks.
And since the last crude just now reached our refinerys, the price increases have just started.
Who could have guessed that a demented imbecile, who failed at every single business he ever tried, could cause so much economic havoc???
Gee, if there were a couple of smart women who could have warned us.....

(235 posts)The news said we paid 24 billion dollars more for gas since the war. What will hardly be covered is when stockholders of the gas companies report they MADE 24 billion dollars more this year.
And that's not counting the betting on the market.
And they do it while they orchestrate constant social upheaval so we hate each other and don't pay attention to the fact that the one percent is moving all the puppet strings and the .01 percent sits atop it all like Lucifer on his throne.

(270 posts)We react to round numbers. Here in upstate NY $4.59 so far. Each new rise makes a few more magas quit him, and a bunch of 'lessor of two evils' voters turn.

(12,665 posts)I was in rural upstate New York last week where the gas was $4.40. Many people in rural areas have to commute a considerable distance to work and for some of those people, a few extra bucks a week is hard to dig up.

(5,447 posts)If gas is up 40% by today's numbers, then the base would be 71.43% of today's price.
But Trump promised to cut energy prices in half so the true base would be 35.71% of today's price.
That would be a 180% price increase by Trump's earlier promise.
As if Trump's promise/word had any value.
------------------------------
For 50%, the figures would be 66 2/3 % for base, 33 1/3% for half price base.
and 200% price increase.
-------------------------
When it hits 75%, the figures would be 57.14% for base, 28.57% for half price base.
and 250% price increase.
