The local developer saying the Trump brand has become toxic".
Lets just say that with the Iran war and everything else, the Trump brand was increasingly unpopular in Australia, David Young

That's the last thing Australia's Gold Coast (Miami equivalent) needs.

(60,416 posts)They were the only ones in the movie theater that got the joke, too. It was shown as a short preview to some film they had gone to see. At first, they were remarking to each other how close Swedish seemed to English (in fact, it is--I learned to speak Swedish years later), until they finally figured out what was going on ("Golden Escargot Films" wasn't a dead giveaway, apparently), and it was English being spoken as fake Swedish. But then they were howling with laughter in the movie theater, being shushed by the other people watching, who hadn't gotten the joke yet, and were under the impression they were seeing some kind of preview for the next Ingmar Bergman film.
By the way, this was also the inspiration for the closing scene of the TFT video "My Pillow, My Pillow, My Pillow."

(60,416 posts)If you know the language, you realize what pains someone took to make the dialogue sound like fake Swedish. I cannot imagine how many takes were needed for the actors to do those lines with a straight face.

And pull his name off of their buildings. His golf properties are done too. I don't think Trump org's new Persian Gulf golf business ventures are going to continue either.
I wish we could get his name off of the Chicago building.

(3,061 posts)The brand has been garbage. But the developers probably thought that Trump would be bringing money to the table. Bad assumption.

(8,935 posts). . . Nearly everybody I met asked how our country could ever have elected Trump. In fact, there are quite a number of things about American culture that they have a very hard time understanding.
The thing is, Australians (at least all of the ones I met), are laid back, very reasonable people. Their politics varies, of course, from one person to the next. But whether they fall to the left or the right of the political spectrum, most recognize that the taxes they pay to support things like their robust system of public health, which includes dental as well as medical coverage, or programs that help those who are enduring difficult times financially, are a good and necessary thing.
So it really doesn't surprise me in the least that they would find the Trump brand to be too toxic!
