I just posted else in another post about persons with intellectual disabilities but have decided to do my own post.
Trump does NOT have low IQ or better known as intellectual disabilities.
Children and adults with intellectual disabilities are like most everyone one else kind, caring, and friendly.
Their IQ level will determine just how much help and assistance they will need in life it is not associated with negative personality traits.
As an example, many people with down syndrome have IQs in the moderate to mild range. Some need constant assistance with dressing and toileting skills with limited verbal abilities. Others are mild to borderline with no Trump behaviors. They can function from needing minimal assistance to almost average intelligence.
Severe to profound, IQs lower than about 50 need total care in all areas of development
People with intellectual disabilities are a minority just like any other minority and deserve our respect. The demeaning of intellectual disabilities I see on this site makes me angry. We are suppose to be better than this.
Trump is many things but his sickness and evilness is not related to IQ.
He chooses to be stupid and ignorant this isn't associated with low IQ. He chooses to be mean and hateful this is not associated with low IQ. He chooses to be vengeful this not related to low IQ
Please give people with IQ the same respect you give to every other minority.

(131,305 posts)His apparent intellectual shortcomings aren't caused by some congenital disability but by his constellation of personality disorders. He's willfully ignorant. He's a narcissist who thinks he's always right and that whatever he believes is true, and throughout his privileged life he's never been held to account. He always got his way because of his money and his bullying personality, so he was able to turn his beliefs into facts as far as his business was concerned. Since he always got his way and was able to force others to do what he wanted, he never had to learn much about anything that didn't affect his business. He remained comfortably ignorant about everything outside his world of real estate development, and being lazy on top of everything else, he never bothered to learn anything else. As a result, he presents as being as dumb as a bag of hair. His IQ, if it had ever been measured, is probably a lukewarm normal. He's functionally stupid because he's lazy and has been able to do what he wanted without having to know anything outside his little world of rich assholes.

(96 posts)Yes cognitive impairment in old age happens. I'm 73 and am seeing changes. I however have had at least average IQ and still do. Old age cognitive impairment is considered a different category. Intellectual disability can be diagnosed at very young age. If child is "slow" this may not show up until preschool.
Trump is a damaged human who refuses to use his innate intelligence to learn and seek experience and knowledge. Such a same that he uses his intelligence for evil. Thanks for posting

(15,621 posts)If you saw clips of his early interviews with more serious journalists, like the one with Barbara Walters where he was not scripted, he exhibited least a Jr. Collage vocabulary and enough savvy to attempt to pivot her focus, and when that didn't work, shut his trap instead of digging himself into a deeper hole.
As you indicated, his decline has been due to his privileged laziness, and probably way too much Adderall and partying to try to recapture his club hopping disco days - leading to public indications of development of some sort of dementia (instead of just lazy narcissism) since around the early 2010's.
Thank you. Totally right!

But I disagree with the stupid part even a highly intelligent person can be, act, and behave stupidly at least some time, much of the time, most of the time or in the orange assholes case ALL the time! Stupid and low IQ or cognitive impairment are not the same thing. Stupid can be something like just not using common sense, poor judgement, or making a bad decision. We have all been guilty of those on some occasions over the course of our life. The reason we are not labeled stupid or idiotic is we dont do those things all the time, repeatedly like the overweight, out of shape, idiotic asshole in the White (and gold lame) House .

(96 posts)to know others feelings on this. I see it everywhere not just at DU. But DU is the only place where I can make a statement.
I worked with infants, toddlers, children and adults with intellectual disabilities and it hurts me to see the things said. I can only imagine from the families I worked with how it must make families feel.

But sure, people who call him low IQ are an equally big problem.

(96 posts)There are numerous times on DU and even one today claiming trump is low IQ and making jokes about how low his IQ is. Why are people claiming he has low IQ and joking about it? They are associating lack of intelligence to trump and his behavior. Somehow this is funny? I'd suggest you ask some parents with intellectually handicapped children if they find this comparision funny. To me it's clear that saying trump is low IQ, is just as bad as associating other minorities, we defend, with behaviors that MAGA thinks they have. I suggest that you seek out disabled children in school or adults in a sheltered workshop for disabled adults and then decide if they are anything like Trump.

That's just excuse. Kinda like the excuses we hear from maga. Doesn't make it ok.

(96 posts)Exactly who and how are we overthinking this? I'm not sure if you mean I'm over thinking the posts I see at DU that talk about trump being low IQ. I really don't think so. We scream loudly when a MAGA makes a racist statement. I'm just saying that saying trump is low iq is just as derogatory to people with low iq as a maga making racist statements and we should all defend this minority.

(96 posts)Stupid people can have very high iq they just make the choice not to use their intelligence. People with intellectual disabilities or low iq did not make that choice. Your argument is stupid. You are intelligent but are choosing not to understand my post because you want to continue demeaning a group of people that you don't know.

probably fighting an uphill battle against perhaps the oldest prejudice known to man. Mockery and disdain - both serious and humorous, good natured and down right vicious - are completely ingrained in our (and virtually every other culture) - and is inculcated from the time we are in diapers.
The basis of about 97% of our comedy ... (again, universal) (blonde jokes, cousin Jimmy, hapless spouse, rural rubes, Polish yoink .. ) And on a more serious level, the basis of almost instinctual and rudimentary categorization and evaluation of our fellow ...
You'd probably be hard put to find anything more universal - or more jointly shared.
So ... You are of course right - but .....

(14,249 posts)Stupidity as defined by Cipolla in The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity is the tendency to act not only against the interests of others but against your own interests as well. You can have high IQ, meaning you have high intellectual ability, and still be stupid, often through pride or hubris or a lack of empathy. This is a distinction we desperately need to understand in dealing with not just people like Trump but AI as well, which processes information more rapidly than humans yet should never be allowed to control anything.
with the ridiculous war in Iran, the murder of our citizens on American streets, the daily fraud, theft and corruption of this administration and the very real possibility of the end of our Democracy.......you are most concerned about your fellow Democrats on this forum using a term Trump uses almost daily now.
I remember a DU poster last year admonishing us for commenting on Trump's obesity.
We are all in a WAR against a common enemy. We are all on the same team. We will all do our part to fight this evil in our own way, and we can't afford to be attacking each other in that process.
I just learned today that Trump really hates being called dumb. So, that's what I will call him from now on.
I sure hope the word "dumb" doesn't offend anyone.

(5,080 posts)Theyre evil.
Everything theyre doing is deliberate. Every move they make is to extract as much wealth as possible from the working class and place it in the hands of the psychopathic, wealth hoarding ruling class. It really is that simple. Tariffs, war, tax cuts, market manipulation, gutting entire government agencies, the weakening of the dollar, slashing benefits
..literally every move they make is to that end.
Its all in Project 2025.
Its pretty much the only thing they didnt lie about.
We need class consciousness more than ever.

(42,497 posts)How he tested on the standardized intelligence tests during his middle school or high school years is completely irrelevant. The whole thing should be dropped in DU. His low grades are a reflection of his lower than normal reading abilities, not his intelligence.
If he had been properly diagnosed as dyslexic (or whatever) when he was very young, he could have received special training to overcome the problem and he would have excelled at school, as many other children have done.

(42,497 posts)I don't take any of this personally, but people are getting a little hyper about the IQ scores rumor. None of it has been proven anyway so I take it all with a grain of salt.
On another thread I mentioned that IQ tests and scores that students were given in the 1950's and 60s have little relevance to how that person would be scored now as an adult in their 70s or 80s.

What's Trump's IQ? I have no idea, but I'd guess it to be in the 110-120 range. His obvious deterioration, however, along with his poor decision making, make him seem much more stupid that that.
I'm not sure why you're propping him up, though. He is not a good person, whatever is level of intelligence might be. He is a dangerous, totally self-absorbed person, who never should have been in a position of power.

(96 posts)I'm shocked to say the least at how many people here are insensitive to others difficulty and difference. These are the same people who would have a stroke if I called someone the "n" word but they could care less for other minority. They think it's ok. Sounds kinda maga to me. I'm sure that will set people off. I'm just realizing that there are insensitive people on both sides of the aisle.
I worked with infants, toddlers, children and adults with all types of disabilities. I worked with families and the community. I will say I never received this kind of reaction from people in community that I have received today defending a minority that really can't speak for themselves.
