Short version: Ms. Average Old Guy is back home -- to ER Monday about 10:30 AM, back home around 4:00 this afternoon. Severe UTI and pneumonia with no idea where either of the infections came from.
Long version.
Sunday she was her usual (83 yr old) self . . . moving a little slow, giving Trump the finger, talking with our 19-yr-old mildly autistic grandson about his job prospects, pissing and moaning at me for some stupid shit I did.
Monday morning 9:30, in bed, called me, she was choking on vomit, got her airway cleared, stripped off nasty PJ's, headed for bathroom and she had no idea where she was, who she was, who I was . . . . I'm an old EMT, ran rescue for 14 years in rural VA, got vitals, BP 80/40, O2 86%, cyanotic, respirations 36 and rapid, pulse 102, chest sounds crackles, rales, rhonchi . Called 911.
Monday through Tuesday night 4X daily IV antibiotics, still confused, did not recognize me or our son, daughter, DIL, or grandsons. Responded to most questions with blank stare, slept constantly.
Wednesday morning was different story -- "Why am I in hospital??" Was suddenly her usual lovably grouchy self, improved gradually, stil unsteady on her feet, appetite returning, all she wants now is a shower.
ALL THE SUPPORT FROM OUR DU FRIENDS REALLY DID MEAN A LOT -- when any of us finds ourselves in the midst of a crisis, it's not the crisis that beats you down, it's the loneliness. Knowing that folks you never met and never will meet are concerned about you, worried about you, sharing your worry keeps you going. THANK YOU ALL.
