(582 posts)My house was evenly divided between supporting the US or Belgium. Older adults went all in for Belgium. Younger people despite hating what trump did still went for US. So glad the US lost.

(23,175 posts)The US was looking very tentative.
I wonder if the off field shenanigans is affecting them more and causing a loss of focus because they are not playing like they did in the first four games

I was really hoping the US and Mexico would have made at least the quarterfinals

(23,175 posts)Kudos to Belgium, they were the better team. The US would have been hard pressed to win even if they brought their A game.
Lukaku is like a video game power up- bring him on and get a goal within 5 minutes.

(299,963 posts)but youre right.
Belgium had its first chance in a little more than a minute and a corner by 1.43. They almost scored before 5.00 minutes and did so by 8.41.
They owned the midfield for most of the match.

(299,963 posts)There is no S in FIFA. It is World Cup football.
FIFA established 1904. NFL 1920.
When Americans wake up and respect the one that uses feet by calling it football, the rest of us might root for you.
Eff that idiot Infantino - he will soon be history.

(225 posts)Soccer is what what 6 year old US kids play because the only skill required is running. After they develop other athletic skills they mostly play other sports, like baseball, basketball and real football.

First came the beatdown. Then came the mocking.
After Belgium throttled the United States 4-1 in the World Cup Round of 16 on Monday night, the Belgians had even more fun at the Americans expense, mostly zeroing in on the saga of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun.
His one-game suspension for the red card he received in the Round of 32 was lifted by FIFA on Sunday, after President Donald Trump requested a review from the governing body. The soccer world, and especially Belgium, responded with fury, accusing FIFA of placating Trump.
Thus, after the win, the Belgian national teams X account posted a photo of the teams fourth goal marked with the message Overturn this. Similarly, after that goal, many of Belgiums players did the Trump dance, swaying their hips and rocking their hands back and forth.

A lot has happened off the pitch over the last two days, Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin said after the game. There was a sense of injustice within the squad, and we were determined to respond on the field.
