Adam Mockler just put out a video explaining that if he's only being kept alive mechanically, his next of kin, the wife , would be the one to pull the plug. If she's not available to do that, he stays plugged in until the repugs tell her to come home and get 'er done. So he's not dying until the rat fucking has been completed.
