Trump administration looking at $5,000 'baby bonus' to incentivize public to have more children

Source: ABC News

April 23, 2025, 1:59 PM

The White House has been fielding proposals aimed at persuading people to marry and have children, an effort being pushed by outside groups focused on increasing the nation's birth rate after years of decline.

One such proposal that has been pitched to White House advisers is a $5,000 "baby bonus" to every American mother after she gives birth. "Sounds like a good idea to me," President Donald Trump said Tuesday when asked about a $5,000 incentive for new mothers.

When asked by ABC News about the proposals the administration has been fielding, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president is "proudly implementing policies to uplift American families." "The president wants America to be a country where all children can safely grow up and achieve the American dream. As a mother myself, I am proud to work for a president who is taking significant action to leave a better country for the next generation," Leavitt said.

Sources cautioned that while advisers are considering the ideas, Trump hasn't made a final decision on any of the proposals. A White House official pointed ABC News to the policies Trump has taken so far to help families, specifically citing his executive order aimed at increasing access and affordability for in vitro fertilization, or IVF. The official also cautioned against linking outside proposals to the White House.

Not said is that they only want white babies because they are certainly removing the brown ones.

And that won't even cover a day in the hospital (which is about how long a woman is kept before being kicked out). And once the baby is here, they drop assistance for anything and everything that would support the family - paid family leave (see the idiocy in Congress fighting against proxy voting for pregnant members), follow-up gynecological and pediatric care, childcare, EITC expansion, (non-voucher) adequate funding for schools, etc.

Thu Apr 24, 2025, 10:23 AM

And as the kid gets older, you need a bigger house, that 1 bedroom apartment won't do. And a bigger car too. You'll need an SUV, because that little Corolla hatchback won't cut it for hauling around soccer and camping crap - all of which also costs lots of money. And God help you if your kid gets involved in club sports teams, which will run you $3k-$5k per year. My kid played club soccer since he was 7. Then there's school, toys and electronics, clothes, food, childcare/babysitters and healthcare. And that's assuming your kid is healthy. If your kid is born with a handicap, all bets are off.

As the parent of a 21 year old in college, I can attest that those numbers are pretty accurate for raising a kid in a middle class lifestyle.

Trump circa 2025 is unquestionably the dumbest man to ever assume the presidency, now actually further dimminished from the previous dumbest man - Trump circa 2017. History will record the damage and the end of the American hemegony that he wrought. The final toll will be immense and last for generations.

I hope the people who voted for this outcome live through all of the aftermath. I hope they suffer. I hope they see their families shredded and their lives destroyed and that they have to tell their children and grandchilden that it was THEIR fault for choosing this mess. I hope they have to lie dying on their death beds and are forced to unburden their souls with the truth, that they must look into the disillusioned and pained eyes of their children and admit: "I did it because the internet memes made me unable to vote of the clearly qualified and superior mental cnadidate because it was 1) a "she" , 2) not white, and 3) the othjer internet tough guys would make fun of me and call me a crass term for vaginas and I lacked the guts to do the right thing.

I hope the dying words of every one of thes miserable scumbag fuckwads is "I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry." as they die watching the faces of their loved ones grimace in horror at them one final time.

Roaming around and rounding up all the “illegal” immigrants?

As we approach Gilead level crap, the new meaning of ICE could simply be:

Immigration and Conception Enforcement.

Same acronym, same uniform, same authoritarianism.

de facto "baby farms" where women who are incarcerated for other things are "offered" the alternative of serving their time making babies? What is really at the heart of this is the White Supremacist theory about being replaced.

It never has. It's been tried before, and does not result in more babies.

Women, the very vast majority of women, don't want as many babies as their bodies can bear. They want one or two or maybe three, and that's enough, thank you very much.

The world is WAY to damn over crowded as it is. The congestion is overwhelming. We need a much lower birthrate, not more babies. Particularly babies according to some rightwing plan.

And, even though it's been pointed out here, $5k isn't anywhere near the cost of birthing a baby and raising a child to adulthood. Even if everything goes right, which it usually does not.

Paid maternity leave/ paternity leave, healthcare, the right to chose if her fetus is not viable, the right to chose in any circumstances, access to birth control, subsidized childcare, food for every American, quality education, DEI to ensure equal access to quality jobs……this $5k is of zero consequence. Forcing women into poverty to create children that will have zero future is a laughable venture! Reproduction for cannon fodder is never going to be a marketable concept here!

...that we don't have enough schools, bed space in Labor, Delivery and Recovery centers, pediatricians, or affordable housing to increase the birth rate much over what it is now.

Then there's the supply of food and water.

Past what the rest of y'all are discussing, all of which are valid, we simply don't have the infrastructure to turn the women of America into serial baby-making machines like Musk wants to do.

Let's see...19 kids X $5,000 comes to 95 grand. Wow, that's almost enough to pay for Josh Duggar's defense lawyer at his child pornography trial.
