Tulsi Gabbard used the same easily cracked password for years for different online accounts, report says

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard used the same password across separate online accounts for years, according to a new report. Before becoming the head of the intelligence community, Gabbard used the same password for multiple email addresses and online accounts while she served in Congress, including while working on the House Committees for Armed Services and Homeland Security, Wired reported.
The revelation suggests Gabbard, who now oversees 18 intelligence organizations, was not adhering to simple online security best practices for years. The report comes months after it was disclosed that she was one of the Trump officials involved in the so-called Signalgate group chat in which U.S. military strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen were discussed. Signal is not approved by the Pentagon for discussion of sensitive information. The Independent has reached out to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for comment.
Gabbard served as a Democratic congresswoman of Hawaii from 2013 through 2021. She appeared to have used the same password from 2012 through 2018 for her Gmail, MyFitnessPal, LinkedIn and other personal accounts, tranches of breached records published within the period show, Wired reported. This password does not appear to have been used with her government accounts.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency recommends using long, random and unique passwords on all personal and business accounts, stressing that each password should be used for one and only one account.

(11,976 posts)passwords. That's because if some baddie gets into that email account, then they have access to any two-factor or other security-related codes and other sensitive information sent to it.

(49,919 posts)for latest breaking news. This is not that. This is an investigative story pieced together from threads of threads and then some other accusations thrown in that resemble gossip. I hate Gabbard with a passion but that has nothing to do with the fact that this post is in the wrong forum.

The problem is that we are not in "normal times". There is an administration in place right now that is completely unprecedented in scope and has essentially become "a reality show", as has the "news" that is associated with it.
One can put the blinders on and ignore "the crazy" while they actually enact "the crazy" into law and by their "executive actions" - almost literally in the manner of Muskrat's "chain saw" performance.
As a note, I was thankful to have RETIRED from the federal government 2 weeks after 45's first inauguration and didn't have to deal with his first term's insanity but have plenty of family, friends, and former coworkers (a pile who were recently laid off) who have had to suffer through that AND the current iteration of it.

(983 posts)I think the post is entirely appropriate here when you combine the rest of the idiocy exhibited by the leaders that are failing to protect our "Nation's secrets".
I think it's continuous breaking news.

(154,085 posts)completely filled with unqualified, often criminally-liable appointees, who were confirmed by a bunch of MAGat and cowardly elected officials.
And one could then try to completely drop "domestic news" and look to "international news", but the filth from our current administration, has polluted the international "news" sphere as well with the idiocy - between the tariffs, the DEI bullshit, and the mishandling of classified information (including its transmission).

(25,900 posts)the topic. You'd have to be living under a rock or inside a cast iron bubble to have avoided being informed about the necessity for good password security practices.
