Social Security officials pull plug on 'ineffective' DOGE program that sparked mass chaos

Source: Raw Story

A key Social Security program mandated by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was ordered shut down on Friday for not only being "inefficient" but also creating chaos for those applying for their benefits and those who process claims.

According to a report from the Washington Post, officials from Elon Musk's creation designed to root out waste had demanded "a security check, developed at DOGE’s request, that was meant to root out allegedly fraudulent claims filed over the phone," which, in turn, was a bust.

According to two employees, "the measure — which involved placing a three-day hold on all phone claims as other staffers checked into the caller’s background — had only identified a couple of potential fraud cases while causing significant delays in claims processing." The report notes that was not the only problem that needed correcting.

"Many of the major changes DOGE pushed at Social Security have been abandoned or are being reversed after proving ineffective, while others are yielding unintended consequences and badly damaging customer service and satisfaction," the Post reported with one former official admitting she is not surprised. Kathleen Romig had already pointed out that there were safeguards in place before DOGE's meddling and explained, "So much of this is self-inflicted wounds."

or their parents have been and just have no concept of America. We generally do not operate in a system where you bribe officials to get something done like in a lot of the countries.

And Trump cheats at golf, dumb. The game of golf is to test yourself against your own score. Cheating is completely out of step.

We have PLENTY of corruption here in the good ole USA.
A lot of it's white collar crime, and those rascals are probably well aware of how that works.

I have seen government corruption and efforts to root it out, some more effective than others. I agree that the US, while not incorruptible, does not have a normalized culture of corruption where it is just expected that a little bribe to officials and police is the norm and the more effective way of getting things done.

Growing up in the US I do not remember ever giving an actual bribe to any US governmental official. And as a former state and federal employee for many years I do not remember ever taking a bribe either.

Things are different in some other parts of the world and Patel and Musk may well have different subconscious expectations.

I applaud your perspicacity.

other students to get what he wants, we seem to now have an administration that resembles the Asian high school bully tv shows. Every last one of them acts like the leader of a gang of high school bullies. Like they never grew up and accepted responsibility for their actions.

I just feel like it is time to treat them like you treat bullies. You don't sit them down with the counselor, you beat the shit out of them. Should have fired Garland and found another one who would have arrested Trump for the documents case and tried him and put him in jail even on Election Day.

"But the optics" of doing that..

The impertinent fools cannot conceive of a set of tools which can operate as efficiently as a trained and experienced person.
The central problem here is that DOGE dogma states that anyone who has experience in the system is corrupt and therefore unable or willing to do the job as DOGE expects it to be done. Since DOGE is smarter than anyone else only they can solve the problems which they insist are inherently corrupting the system

Can you imagine a more obnoxious and self-serving bunch of fools?
Imagine that!

He:

1). Got the data he wanted. It's got to be worth a king's ransom, and he knows it.

2). He screwed with agencies that had regulatory authority over his businesses. Look, Ma! No more investigations!

3). He stacked the deck in favor of his companies getting more government contracts while screwing over his competitors.

That was his real agenda. And, he checked off everything on his list.
