White House releases RFK Jr.-led report on chronic disease

Source: ABC News

The White House's Make America Healthy Again Commission offered a range of critiques about chronic disease in America in a report released Thursday, the first major byproduct of the cross-government commission headed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Chiefly, the report blames many chronic illnesses on ultra-processed foods, chemicals in the environment, sedentary behavior and over-reliance on digital devices among children. It also suggests childhood vaccines need to be studied further.

“We will not stop until we defeat the chronic disease epidemic in America, we're going to get it done for the first time ever,” President Donald Trump said during a MAHA event at the White House on Thursday afternoon.

“Unlike other administrations, we will not be silenced or intimidated by the corporate lobbyist or special interest. And I want this group to do what they have to do,” Trump said, mentioning issues like toxic chemicals in the environment, overprescription of children and ultra processed foods.

1) Ultra-processed foods don't help, but tRump's cronies like pushing them for profit. He won't get anywhere.

2) Chems in the enviro: tRump and RepubliCons pushing massive de-regulation. He's going to get pushed backwards on that.

3) Sedentary behaviour: tRump's inaugurination donors depend on couch potatoes to buy garbage like potato chips and video games and streaming chewing gum for the mind. No dice.

4) Addiction to devices: Again with the donors. Face plant.

What will Donnie serve to his guests at the WH if not Big Macs, fries and Coke? We do most of our shopping at the local farmers' market and as I am retired the time it takes to cook from raw and scratch is not a problem. The few times I do go to the grocery store for things they just don't sell at the farmers' market, it does amaze me if I go down the cereal or frozen food aisles what low value foods they offer. And given the amount and variety I have to assume it does get sold and is not just there for it bright and decorative packaging designs.

Even my college educated friends. It’s the poor kids who have no choice on what to eat that’s sad. If school lunches can be not processed food and McDonald’s can take the chemical toxins out of their food - that might help. And why is corn syrup the first ingredient in many infant formulas? No wonder the kids are not healthy - it’s like drinking coke in a baby bottle your first yr of life.

I eat organically and grow my own vegetables and have chickens I that I feed organic grains & organic vegetables to. . My college educated, successful artist neighbor told me last week she eats loads of bread because that’s what she craves - and your body tells you what you need.

There is evidence some Egyptian pharaohs had cancer.
They did not eat processed foods.

I am a lymphoma survivor.
I have MAGA relatives who keep sending me links to unproven treatments.
I immediately delete it.

Some of my MAGA relatives also believe that there is a hidden cure for cancer that is being suppressed by the pharmaceutical industry.

20. Maddow Blog-The Trump administration's 'MAHA Report' cites nonexistent scientific studies

There's new evidence that the White House's “The MAHA Report: Making Our Children Healthy Again” relied in part on scientific research that doesn't exist.

In case this isn’t obvious: In a healthy political system, if officials released a hyped report on health policy, and the document relied on scientific sources that didn’t exist, those officials would be expected to resign — quickly. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-administrations-maha-report-cites-nonexistent-scientific-studies-rcna209732

With this in mind, no one was especially surprised when the White House report started crumbling under scrutiny. The Washington Post reported, “Some of the report’s suggestions ... stretched the limits of science, medical experts said. Several sections of the report offer misleading representations of findings in scientific papers.”

That was last week. This week, NOTUS advanced these concerns, reporting that the administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” report “misinterprets some studies and cites others that don’t exist, according to the listed authors.”

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says his “Make America Healthy Again” Commission report harnesses “gold-standard” science, citing more than 500 studies and other sources to back up its claims. Those citations, though, are rife with errors, from broken links to misstated conclusions. Seven of the cited sources don’t appear to exist at all. ... NOTUS also found serious issues with how the report interpreted some of the existing studies it cites.

For example, the administration’s document listed epidemiologist Katherine Keyes as the first author of a study on anxiety in adolescents — except she didn’t write it.

“The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,” Keyes told NOTUS. “We’ve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.”....

I would gladly make note of the defense of the MAHA document from Kennedy and the Department of Health and Human Services, but at least so far, neither the controversial secretary nor the Cabinet agency he ostensibly leads has commented on these new allegations. HHS did not respond to NOTUS' request for comment on the citation inconsistencies, the outlet reported.

Of course, given Kennedy’s recent track record, there’s no reason to assume he’d be able to answer questions about the document anyway.

To be sure, the traditional norms surrounding American politics have been largely shattered, but in a situation like this one, it’s worth emphasizing that in a normal and healthy political system, if officials released a much-hyped report on public health policy, and scrutiny found that the document relied on scientific sources that didn’t exist, those officials would be expected to resign — quickly.

Bob aka RFK JR does not want people to publish is the Lancet or the New England Journal of Medicine because these publications are peer reviewed and check sources.
