'Sealed their fate': New memo shows Dems giddy over looming elections
Source: Raw Story

Democrats are already plotting to go on the offense over House Republicans' vote to pass President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill."
According to Punchbowl News' Max Cohen, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already circulated a memo stating that the GOP's vote will cost them their majority next year, and that No matter what happens in the Senate with respect to budget reconciliation, House Republicans have already sealed their political fate.
This aligns with exclusive Raw Story reporting that Democrats are already strategizing on how to make Republicans pay for their vote. The GOP's counterparts at the National Republican Congressional Committee, meanwhile, are doing their best to flip the script, attacking Democrats who opposed the legislation as voting for tax hikes, handouts to illegal immigrants, and open border chaos.
The Republican bill, which came together haphazardly after weeks of impasse and faction-fighting, cuts hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid, food assistance, and green energy programs, along with a number of other items like ending the IRS' free tax filing service, prohibiting states from enforcing artificial intelligence regulations for a decade, and sharply limiting the ability of federal courts to civilly sanction Trump administration officials for contempt.

(7,363 posts)or end of elections as we currently understand them
If Trump removes contempt of court, it is a dictatorship
What stops him?
Martial law ... no election ...
or an election like they have in Russia
.. where only Republican appointees can count the ballots.
That has to be the end game with this bill
Unless something stops them, the democracy is over.

(18,467 posts)They are focused on the election as if it is some deux ex machina that is going to undo all the hopeless damage the MAGAs are doing right now; meanwhile, our efforts to effectively neutralize all the actions they are taking now is a very mixed bag and not very successful. I understand the fear of dealing with reality right now and hinging their hopes on some future election, because it's scary. But I don't think the electorate is that excited about these elections. We are more worried about what is being destroyed and taken from us right now in front of our eyes.
Krasnov and his minions are moving extremely fast and I've read more than once that some knowledgeable people predict we won't be in a democracy by summer.
Also not sure about how free and fair the 2026 election will be.

(4,986 posts)I just haven't seen evidence that supports this. Lots of conjecture, but no hard evidence. Plus, having worked around e-voting machines and helped craft actual law to supervise them, it is not as easy as a lot of folks think.
The sad reality is that 34% of the electorate voted for fascism. 33% voted against, and 33% couldn't be bothered to vote at all.
DENVERPOPS
(12,426 posts)for future elections................and see if they resemble Russia's election outcomes.........
AND, if anyone had hard evidence, (or for that matter, was even *ALLOWED* to investigate), where would you take your proof......Trump's DOJ? Trump's FBI? Trump's USSC? Trump's FEC? Trump's U.S. Controlled House? Trump's U.S. Controlled Senate?????
And, actually 33% voted for Fascism, and 34% voted against it........(Popular Votes)
Miguelito Loveless
(4,986 posts)Trump won the popular vote.
75 million voted for Harris (against fascism)
77 million voted for fascism
90 million did not vote.
My percentages are a bit off, as I was looking at more preliminary numbers from right after the election, as opposed to final numbers after the certification.
As I keep explaining to folks, it is far easier, and LEGAL, to suppress the vote, than tamper with the vote. Musk is not as competent as people believe, and voting machines are NOT connected to the Internet.
The reality is Dems lost this election fighting with outdated tactics and the Right won by embracing and abusing social media.

(1,086 posts)No longer can we run as "not trump". It aint working. We need a unified message similar to the Bernie AOC road show. We also need someone with stage presence to deliver it.
The only thing this memo shows is DCCC concentrating on regaining their majorities. Which is important, but not as important as the messaging and actions they will take when in majority.
If we somehow regain majorities and fail to act decisively, its probably curtains on the USA. Voters are tired of policy wonks debating, they are looking for action, right or wrong. Currently that action is all being done by the slimy GOP.
BumRushDaShow
(153,696 posts)because unfortunately that works. It worked for the GOP when 45 got in the first time with an anti-Obama/anti-ACA vote, it worked for Democrats with Biden as an anti-45/anti-pandemic vote (including during the midterms with the overturning of Roe), and in the whiplash, it worked for 45 again with the anti-immigrant/anti-liberal base vote.
In EACH of these cases, people will EASILY ignore "economics" when they feel their very "being" is attacked - and that goes all ways.
They react reflexively, instinctively, emotionally, and viscerally.
Something as simple as "The GOP is taking away your rights" (and that can be fed all kinds of "rights" depending on the part of the country the messaging is happening because we are NOT A MONOLITH) and leave it at that.

As you have acknowledged yourself, Bernie and AOC have both the message and the stage presence to deliver it. And they already have delivered it.
So why look for anybody else to do what they are already doing better than anyone else?
Add Jasmine Crockett and Jamie Raskin and theres your team to speak truth to this ongoing injustice

(66,826 posts)The entire Democratic Party strategy seems to be "sit back and let them make a mess and then we'll win" and I see a lot of flaws in that.
I'm worried that DNC leaders don't seem to be talking to actual Democratic voters. At least the ones who live outside the beltway cocktail circuit.

(47,919 posts)They should realize their "who else you gonna vote for didn't work?" "vote for me I'm not as bad as the other guy" didn't work.
I don't think this "House Republicans have already sealed their political fate. will work either.
Republicans don't give a shit about what Trump and the Republicn party does. Passing this bill will not turn off their support for their party.

(22,966 posts)Raw Story has pieced together an article based on a tweet which quotes two sentence fragments from a DCCC memo which seems to express confidence that Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot with their draconian cuts.
Is there a link to the actual memo? Id be curious to find out if this frivolous arrogant Dems storyline is accurate or whether people are just reacting to the headline.

(22,966 posts)I'll be honest, I don't read giddiness in that memo. It's just a strategy memo that outlines how they're going to go after Republican House seats this fall.
There are two purposes to this: First, I'd say it would be political malpractice if they DIDN'T go all in on the House Republicans' Big Billionaire Bill. Trump will not be on the ballot next year. The memo isn't wrong in stating that many of the things Republicans voted for in the bill are very unpopular. Democrats should be hammering them for it in House districts all over the country. Republicans will probably lose seats in close districts because of the bill.
Second, the bill still has to pass the Senate. By putting out this memo, Democrats are sending a message to GOP Senators to see if they will think twice about putting their names on this piece of crap. Sure, wavering Republicans will likely cave and pass this anyway -- we all know that's likely to happen, and I'm sure the DCCC knows it too -- but you never know. We all thought they were going to repeal the ACA until John McCain fucked it up for them. So I don't see any harm in making them squirm and letting the GOP see their political futures. Next fall they're going to have to defend all the terrible things that the bill does. I have no problem with GOP Senators considering this vote with that thought in the back of their minds.
BumRushDaShow
(153,696 posts)So I am guessing they are wrapping his comments and tone around that memo, and probably more so based on his speech before that bill was passed (because he challenged the Pro Tem Speaker and threatened to add "15 minutes more" to his speech every time he got interrupted).
yardwork
(66,826 posts)I agree that "giddy" is likely typical right wing spin, but still... The lack of pushback from Democratic leaders suggests to me that this really might be their strategy. They're not giddy, but I fear they are complacent.

(22,966 posts)It's here:
https://punchbowl.news/memo_-swing-seat-republicans-punch-their-pink-slip-with-tax-scam/
It's about how the DCCC is going to make the "Big Beautiful Bill" the centerpiece of their efforts to retake the House next year.
Some excerpts:
(snip)
In poll after poll, public support for Trump and the Republican agenda is cratering. The GOP Tax Scam doubles down on all the anxieties the public has about D.C. politicians prioritizing their wealthy friends over everyday people and takes a chainsaw to programs that are popular among a broad swath of Americans, from Trump voters to independents to progressives.
(snip)
House Republicans know their Tax Scam would enact the largest cut to Medicaid and food assistance in American history which is why they are on the run. In a desperate, hypocritical attempt to inoculate themselves from their eventual vote in favor of this terrible bill, vulnerable Republicans whined, wrote letters, and filed meaningless resolutions to try and convince their voters they would not cut Medicaid and other vital programs. It was all a lie. Now that theyve been caught, the DCCC will use their words against them over and over again like the albatross it is.
(snip)
Republicans in the House will be forced to wear this vote for the remainder of the election cycle. At town halls, in paid communications, and from their Democratic challengers, House Democrats and the DCCC will use this vote as the defining contrast of the 2026 election cycle.
Sounds okay to me....
