Trump considering taking $3 billion in Harvard grants, giving them to trade schools

Source: Reuters

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday he is considering taking $3 billion of previously awarded grant money away from Harvard University and giving it to trade schools across the United States.

His comments, which were made on his social media platform Truth Social, come less than a week after his administration sought to block the Ivy League school from enrolling foreign students.

Trump has frozen some $3 billion in federal grants to Harvard in recent weeks, leading the university to sue to restore the funding.

Most of that grant money is appropriated by Congress for the National Institutes of Health to disburse to fund biomedical research, however, which is not typically done at trade schools.

These scientists are expected to apply for grants to organizations such as NIH to carry out this research. Research in the fields of cancer, heart disease, infectious disease, etc. Investigators from all the universities in the country compete for these grants.

Since they have so many of the world’s leading researchers. Trade schools do not.

Investigators who are applying have equipment (very expensive), scientific background (lots of knowledge) and experience to do the proposed research. The trades schools won't be able to carry out any of the research that the grants are given for.

But there isn't a great deal of research going on there, they aren't inventing new technologies and breaking scientific barriers. They are learning to do specific taks/trades that employers and society have demand for and typically need to be learned with a lot of hands on experience and attention to detail.

Chump is trying to nickel and dime Harvard with his stupid political "pet tricks" ... but seriously, Harvard has more wealth than many countries. Right now Harvard's endowment is valued at over $53 billion, which means Harvard could buy and sell the Chump family 10 times over.
