Stunning discovery as archaeologists uncover three Egyptian tombs dating back 3,500 years

Source: Daily Express by MSN

Story by Housnia Shams • 11h

Egyptian archaeologists have discovered three ancient tombs of prominent statesman in Luxor.

The tombs date back to the New Kingdom period more than 3,500 years ago. They were found in the Dra Abu al-Naga necropolis in Luxor, according to Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

"The find is an addition to Egypt's archaeological record, made entirely by Egyptian hands," the ministry said on X.

Researchers identified the names of the tombs' owners through inscriptions found inside.

I thought the tombs were only for Egyptian royalty, had no idea the rich had elaborate tombs too.

Just like with undertakers today, back then there were mummification processes for every budget level. Some people just got a quick wrap in gauze bandages. Royalty and aristocrats got the elaborate, months-long process of the kind of mummification we think of today.
