President Donald Trump will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) following Elon Musk's departure, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday. The president will delegate the administration's efforts to cut "waste, fraud and abuse" to individual Cabinet members.
Why It Matters
Musk, a billionaire tech CEO, announced he would be stepping down after his "scheduled time as a Special Government Employee" came to an end on Wednesday, ending five months of work as one of the most high-profile figures in the second Trump administration. His task force sought to champion mass cuts across the federal government, which led to mass layoffs and restructuring. His departure left the question of leadership in mid-air. DOGE faces ongoing legal challenges over some of its sweeping initiatives, including accessing sensitive data and mass termination of employees.
What To Know
At Thursday's press briefing, Leavitt told reporters asking about DOGE's future that "the entire Cabinet is involved" in its mission and work. "Each cabinet secretary at their respective agencies is committed" to the overarching goal of trimming the government and eradicating waste, she added.
When asked about the group's leadership following Musk's departure, she responded: "The DOGE leaders are each and every member of the president's cabinet and the president himself, who is wholeheartedly committed to cutting waste, fraud and abuse from our government." The press secretary added that "surely the mission of DOGE will continue and many DOGE employees are many political appointees and employees of our government."

Or is it all just another lie?

(1,264 posts)Hell, every other fucking idiot in this administration has like 4 jobs they know nothing about now, I swear. Because hiring people costs money, and all they care to do is fire people for no reason other than to pinch a few pennies.

(7,399 posts)That's an old saw for at least as long as I've been in Government. Anything someone didn't like was fraud, waste or abuse...hint hint, it really wasn't, they just didn't like it. But everyone in Government really should be working for a more efficient operation.

It seems the only thing he really does are the latter duties.

(5,135 posts)It's unbelievable that the news keeps presenting this nonsense as if it's perfectly fine. The President taking over administration of a completely made up government "department" from his billionaire buddy and backer is completely off the wall bonkers.
Of course it's often been said that one of the worst offenses of totalitarian governments is that they require/force/expect you to believe in their most nonsensical propositions. Orwell's variation was, of course "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." But pretty much everyone who has lived through such a government has their own variation on this theme. These moves now are the minor ones. The news media and we as its consumers are supposed to believe that "Donald Trump Taking DOGE Lead After Elon Musk Exit" is simply a headline like any other, a report on something empirical that happened, when it is in fact a statement of extreme insanity that requires us to live in the world space being created by these fascist animals.
