JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) The Trump administration is sending three Cabinet members to Alaska this week as it pursues oil drilling in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and reinvigorating a natural gas project thats languished for years.
The visit by Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin comes after Trump signed an executive order earlier this year aimed at boosting oil and gas drilling, mining and logging in Alaska. It also comes amid tariff talks with Asian countries that are seen as possible leverage for the administration to secure investments in the proposed Alaska liquefied natural gas project.
Their itinerary includes a meeting Sunday with resource development groups and U.S. Sens. Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski in Anchorage before heading to Utqiagvik, an Arctic town on the petroleum-rich North Slope where many Alaska Native leaders see oil development as economically vital to the region.
The federal officials also plan to visit the Prudhoe Bay oil field Monday near the coast of the Arctic Ocean and more than 850 miles (1,368 kilometers) north of Anchorage and speak at Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavys annual energy conference Tuesday in Anchorage.

(1,170 posts)Secret recording at some point will leak out from one of their back room meetings with the most explosive and illicit things being said with the obvious intent to pad their bank accounts and hurt America.
And it still won't make a difference.

trump doesn't care what it does to wildlife or the environment. He, recognizes Alaskas unique value, in terms of money also.

(5,633 posts)The last piece of pristine acreage we taxpayers hold, and the oil execs won't rest until they can sully it all with their "black gold." And, with trump throwing away so many identifiers of Endangered wildlife, it won't just be the land that's killed... it'll be a "gift" that keeps on killing and killing and killing some more. Worse, any pipeline built under this Administration's rules will be sure to get short shrift on materials and labor... ensuring it'll bust, leak or break altogether. Thus, driving up gas prices at the pump and energy costs to our home, and accelerating this era's great extinction. Guess you can tell this is a hot button issue with me. We've managed to fight long enough and hard enough to keep the greedy bastar*ds hands off it until now. But, like everything else, ETTD... and so will this precious piece of Alaska. It actually hurts my heart to think about the damage they'll cause.

Meaning that will drop the price/bbl and will impact the U.S. shale oil drillers, as the current prices are already close to or below their "breakeven" figures for new wells at the moment. There have already been rumblings over the past couple months in the U.S. oil sector about not being too interested in any immediate new drilling (as they won't make anything back to offset the cost to do it - spot WTI closed at ~$61/bbl this past Friday).

(5,633 posts)a poor corporate profit-loss statement to keep them from raping the Earth even more than they have. This country is gonna be so far behind in technology of all kinds we'll spend decades trying to play catch up -- if we can ever catch up with the rest of the world. The magats want the world to not only stand still, but to go back to their imagined heyday of the 1950's (hint: it wasn't the best of times for anyone except white men). But it was a simpler time AFATC, with well defined gender roles that (they think) were adhered to most of the time. They forget about all the women trying to fight for a job, and being shuttled into "female" specific jobs.
We've gone from Radio to TV to the Internet, each time enlarging our world a little bit more until it truly IS a global community. This, they cannot stand. They lose their "specialness" if we do this. They're so anti-globalism that they'll cut off their nose to spite their face, just to try to get people to get back to that imagined time... where everything except church was closed on Sunday, thanks to the Blue Laws; and you didn't dare NOT go to church! I'm afraid at this point, if we were put into a "Don't Look Up" situation, people would actually totally ignore all evidence and just "not look up!"
