Brad Karp Resigns as Paul Weiss Chairman Amid Epstein Fallout

Source: The New York Times

Brad Karp, the longtime chairman of Paul Weiss, one of the nation’s top corporate law firms, suddenly resigned on Wednesday evening after a series of embarrassing emails between him and Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier, became public in recent days.

The law firm’s statement announcing Mr. Karp’s resignation gave no explanation for his decision. But it included a quote from him saying, “Recent reporting has created a distraction and has placed a focus on me that is not in the best interests of the firm.”

In recent weeks, a number of top business executives, academics and politicians have faced negative attention stemming from email and text conversations they had with Mr. Epstein long after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor girl and registered as a sex offender.

Mr. Karp had been under intense scrutiny within the broader legal community after Paul Weiss reached a deal last year with President Trump to resolve an executive order that could have harmed its business. He had appeared to weather the storm.

This schiffoso sold out his whole firm to Trump, probably under threat of blackmail, and then the blackmail came out anyway and he's now gotta resign. I love that for him.

Fuck Brad Karp.

My oldest is at another major law firm. I heard that they hired an attorney from Kirkland at $20 million. Now Houston has offices for all of the major National firms

Paul Weiss has 50+ partners doing Apollo work. Leon black got his start with Mike Millikan/Drexel Burnham. Black is tied to Epstein. Apollo has other senior people tied to Epstein. There will be more fallout for Paul Weiss due to Epstein

The "Really enjoyed the party last Friday" email is creepy as fuck, but a lot of it is him pathetically trying to get his son an in with Woody Allen - also creepy and humiliating for both him and the son.

Is that enough to push you out of Paul, Weiss? Probably not, in my view.

He's getting in front of the next tranche, you ask me. And it's gonna be baaaad.

If they can claim the agreement with Trump was done through blackmail, and, they will do everything they can to destroy this criminal organization in the executive branch of the federal government, then after their victory, they may repair their reputation. May.

It's going to come out anyway. Trump is completely unreliable and untrustworthy.

‘While other firms fought Trump’s orders and won big in court, Paul Weiss agreed to provide $40 million in free legal services to causes championed by Trump, release a statement about neutrality in hiring, and avoid any policies promoting diversity and inclusivity.’

Too bad he's just stepping down as chair but staying at the firm. His bending the knee brought disgrace to a once-revered firm, and now this.
