Former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn is running for Congress in Maryland's 5th Congressional District.

Dunn rose to national prominence for his testimony in congressional hearings about defending the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when a violent mob of supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

"I see the same aggression in ICE agents that I saw from Jan. 6 insurrectionists,” Dunn says in his announcement video released Wednesday, referring to Trump's immigration enforcement operation.

"So tell Donald Trump I'm coming back to the Capitol, this time with a vote, with oversight authority, with subpoena power, with the full constitutional authority granted to a member of the United States Congress," Dunn adds.

and a whole pile of people are running for it. I expect MD DUers know all the backgrounds of those expected to participate in the primary way better than me but I hope he does okay! He can certainly be a "populist" from the left to push for reforms.
