WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Summer Lee moved Tuesday to impeach Attorney General Pam Bondi for failing to fully release the files regarding the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and for using the U.S. Department of Justice to go after President Donald Trump’s enemies and help his friends.
Ms. Lee, D-Swissvale, helped lead the successful fight on Capitol Hill to force the U.S. Justice Department to release its files on Epstein, who was indicted by federal prosecutors for sexually abusing and trafficking underage girls. He died by suicide in his jail cell while awaiting trial.
Ms. Bondi was subpoenaed and ordered to appear for a deposition on April 14 by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform after a vote earlier this month that was supported by five Republicans.
“The attorney general of the United States is entrusted with one of the most solemn responsibilities in our democracy: to enforce the law fairly, impartially, and without political influence,” Ms. Lee said.
“Instead, Pam Bondi is breaking the law to protect pedophiles and prosecute Trump’s political opponents. This is about accountability, transparency, and justice. We deserve a justice system that serves the people, not one that is weaponized for political gain.”
