BEIRUT (AP) An Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon on Saturday killed three journalists who were covering the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, their TV stations said.
Hezbollahs al-Manar TV said that its longtime correspondent Ali Shoeib was killed Saturday in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military said that it had targeted Shoeib, accusing him of being a Hezbollah intelligence operative without providing evidence.
Meanwhile, Beirut-based pan-Arab Al-Mayadeen TV said reporter Fatima Ftouni was killed in the same airstrike in the southern district of Jezzine along with her brother Mohammed, a video journalist. She had just been on air with a live report from southern Lebanon before the strike.

(13,466 posts)They seem to be continuing the practice of killing noncombatants because they don't think they'll ever be held accountable for war crimes. The same holds for bombing hospitals, schools, and churches.

From Media Bias Fact Check
Overall, we rate Al Manar Questionable based on excessive political party control that results in the publication of pro-Hezbollah propaganda, poor sourcing, and designation as a terrorist and hate group. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to the omission of key facts in stories and a failed fact check.
========================================
Funded by / Ownership
Al Manar is fully affiliated with Hezbollah and calls itself the main tool in keeping up with the victories of the Lebanese Resistance of Hezbollah and the Zionist entitys crimes. The US state department designates Al Manar as a media arm of Hezbollah. The Lebanese Communication Group operates Al Manar TV and is owned by Hezbollah. Funding and revenue are not transparent.
Analysis / Bias
According to a BBC profile on Lebanons Media, Almost all TVs and radios are privately-owned, and many are affiliated with political groups. Al-Manar TV is operated by the militant group Hezbollah.

(37,522 posts)He could be doing normal reportorial work, whether or not Al Manar is a division of a paramilitary that's funded by Iran and has managed to subvert a prosperous state and make it into an economic basket case riven by religious/ideological partisanship. (With a fusion of church/state, the two fuse.)
And yet he could also be working as intelligence for the political/military branches.
Difference: Publicity, to some extent. But that "reporters" badge gets you places and gets you sources that would be great.
(Then again, some 'intel' is in the mind of the beholder: if a Axios reporter got wind of some info about an upcoming attack by the US on Kharg or Bandar Abbas, I rather think they'd let slip the information in hopes of stopping the assault by the bad guys. After all, they're protected and "anonymous sources" are sacred. There's a reason D-Day info wasn't shared with reporters. And given the distrust between Trump and Congressional members, why the Iran strike info was only given to a few members of Congress before the strike happened, even if the WPA was followed and notice given within the time period stipulated by law.)

Ali Shoeib, from the Hezbollah-owned al-Manar television station, Fatima Ftouni and her brother and cameraman Mohammed Ftouni from the pro-Hezbollah outlet al-Mayadeen, were killed in the strike targeting their car.
Israel claimed the attack shortly afterwards, saying the target was Shoeib, whom it accused of being a Hezbollah terrorist in an intelligence unit who had reported on the locations of Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military provided no further evidence to support the claim and made no comment on the killing of the other journalists."
The three journalists were struck as they were driving in Jezzine, a district in south Lebanon far from the frontlines. Local television showed at least four missiles were shot at the car and footage appeared to show a missile being fired between the journalists car and bystanders as the latter tried to approach and help. Video of the aftermath showed singed press jackets and helmets, as well as tripods and microphones that had been pulled from the car."
