GOP Megadonor Throws in the Towel on Republicans Holding House in Midterms: 'Almost a Certainty' That Dems Win

Source: MEDIAite

May 5th, 2026, 2:55 pm

Billionaire GOP megadonor Ken Griffin has thrown in the towel on Republicans holding the House in this year’s midterm elections, calling it “almost a certainty” that democrats will win. Griffin, who is the founder of Citadel, told CNBC’s Sara Eisen that the American people have “had it” when it comes to inflation.

“Now [Donald] Trump is president, people want to see that return to having more purchasing power at the cash register,” he said. “If you look at the price of eggs, you look at the price of fast food, you look at the price of housing, you look at the price of almost anything in life, it’s materially higher than it was seven years ago.

And so when gasoline prices go higher, I think it’s really triggering to the American people that the inflation genie is back out of the bottle again, and I think Trump has to deal with that reality that the American people have just had it when it comes to inflation. Unfortunately, I think he is being disproportionately blamed for the diminution of purchasing power, the story of which was really written during the pandemic days of the Biden administration.

The conversation about inflation prompted Eisen to ask Griffin, “Do you see the democrats taking Congress?”. While Griffin seemed certain about the fate of the House, he found the Senate’s fate to be less clear-cut.

He already got his big tax cut. All the other laws that try to keep billionaires from raping the economy are being watered down or cancelled. What else does he need?

Still hung up on blaming Biden? This fucker may as well be blaming Clinton and his penis.

Post Covid inflation was a GLOBAL phenomenon, in case this fuck stick doesn’t remember. And the US came out of it far better than many other countries (as he’s well aware given his portfolio returns).

Sure some of the politics and rhetoric wasn’t as effective as it could have been (the Biden admin should have been beating away daily how they were working hard on bringing it down and calling it “transitory” at first was a mistake), but they at least realized the importance of the issue, addressed it, and then worked effectively, giving the fed independence in raising rates and not triggering what could have been a much worse and longer drawn out stagflation. The administration deserves a lot of credit. Yellen did a great job, unlike that smarmy hack we have now.

Thanks to your buddy Ken, and due to his stupid tariffs and incessant war, we’re back to where we were.

14. Truth is corporate America saw opportunity

During pandemic, corporate America faced supply shortages and operational cost increases - and so increased their prices. Some was warranted, but it became very acceptable to just say: price increases because shortages and costs. We all just accepted it as fact, fearful of large layoffs if people complained.

Meanwhile, corporate profits, dividends to shareholders and stock prices all skyrocketed. This was the tell.

Then, Prices didn’t decrease when shortages subsided and increases slowed/stopped. No one put pressure on companies to stop increasing prices or to reduce prices.

Biden didn’t create the problem, he was holding the economy together, to avoid large layoffs, we were coming out of increasing inflation, heading to soft landing.

I know Elizabeth Warren was shouting about it to the rooftops and holding many hearings about the prices and price gouging by corporations long after shortages had subsided.

Example from a couple years ago -

She and some other Senators drafted legislation last year to start to tackle the issue -

S.2321 - Price Gouging Prevention Act of 2025

Oh really? What about starting a war with Iran? That accounts for everything going up in price, because oil tankers cannot get through the strait of Hormuz. Now who's fault is that again?
