Judges across the country are overwhelmingly rejecting President Donald Trumps hopes to indefinitely detain immigrants as part of his mass deportation plans. Analysis from Politico found that there have been more than 10,000 examples of federal judges ruling against ICEs controversial mandatory detention policy, compared with just 1,200 cases in which they sided with the Trump administration.
Judges are also routinely voicing their frustrations with the Trump administration for continuing to detain people suspected of living in the country illegally without the possibility of release on bond or an opportunity to plead their case, even after being repeatedly rebuffed in court. The aggressive tactics of ICE agents during immigration raids have also come under strong condemnation from judges ruling against the mass-detention policy.
Across the interior of the United States, agents of the federal governmentmasked, anonymous, armed with military weapons, operating from unmarked vehicles, acting without warrants of any kindare seizing persons for civil immigration violations and imprisoning them without any semblance of due process, West Virginia Judge Joseph Goodwin wrote in a February ruling.
It is an assault on the constitutional order. It is what the Fourth Amendment was written to prevent.. In total, more than 425 federal judges across the country have at one stage ruled against the administrations detention plans, including a majority of those nominated to the bench by Trump.

(25,706 posts)The only thing that will stop them is arrest and prosecutions against individuals, or, since that won't happen, civil lawsuits against individuals who are violating both our laws and court orders.
Our justice system is toothless without substantial penalties for wrongdoers.

All these arrests MUST have a paper trail of some sort. Chain of custody should be challenged if not, hopefully to get the judge to dismiss charges against those arrests, with prejudice.
Everyone involved in these putatively illegal detentions should be hit with a $100,000 restitution order to each of the people they traumatized during such violent arrests.
Wasn't the premise to rid the country of violent felons, but they turned ICE into just that? ICE goons are the ones who should be in jail IMHO.

(2,847 posts)He concentrates on the wins, not the losses. He learned well from Roy Cohn.
Every loss gets him closer to the 6 Supremes that eventually, usually give him what he wants. Those losses piss him off. But, he then uses their decision to approach the issue from a different angle. Rodents and the Felon are much alike that way. It's instinctual, so not a lot of thought is required.
The payoff (treat) he gets at the end of the challenge is to beat the opposition and Judge at the end of the maze. His lawyers are his tools.
IMHO.
