Unionized concessions workers at Target Field, employed by Delaware North and represented by Unite Here 17, have announced plans to strike on June 22 during a game between the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The nearly 500-person group, which has worked under an expired contract since Jan. 1 of last year, made the announcement in front of Target Field on Thursday. The union includes cooks, bartenders, suite and stand attendants, cashiers, dishwashers, and other employees.
We are frustrated. Instead of respecting the workers who make it possible for fans to have fun at Target Field, DNC has offered us pennies and left us no choice but to strike, claims Unite Here secretary treasurer Sheigh Freeberg.
With what [Delaware North] charges for food and beer, they can afford fair wages and healthcare for workers. Workers shouldnt worry about losing their job to technology or volunteers.
