Her mother didn't believe in having animals in the house.

She was at my place one time and remarked, "Your cat must be really hungry. I can hear his stomach growling all the way across the room."

She had never heard a cat purr. Not only that, she didn't even know about this most delightful phenomenon. What a deprived existence!
