Spitfire base in WW2, Battle of Britain.
Actual commentary from veteran survivors.
Beautiful and poignant.
Reminds me of my stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC, where Captain Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw lives and performed.
Miller wrote "Pennsylvania 6-5000" about the hotel.
They tore it down recently to make a McOffice building.

(24,770 posts)They gave me a "Heritage Room", that had an iron "valet door" (you would leave your suit in the door through a hatch, turn the "service" indicator, and your suit would be taken, cleaned and pressed and returned.)
The room has 1930's period furniture.
Thanks for sharing your story!

(177,700 posts)Twice with my parents during the mid 1960s, then overnight once in the late 1970s. All three rooms had those valet doors and the 1930s period furniture. Of course, my parents had some 1930s furniture, some of which is still in the family.
My parents were no longer alive when they tore the place down, but I know that they would have been sad at the thought. You're welcome for the story. It's been a family joke for years.

Glad I got to experience it before it was gone.
