I just had a thought yesterday about post-apocalyptic worlds. (Fictional, that is, so far.)

What about sinkholes?
On Thursday we had a sinkhole appear on I-26 in SC between Orangeburg and Columbia. Now, I know other states have had them too.

But then...what about roads in the post-apocalyptic world? After some years, there would be sinkholes on the roads, lots of them in areas that have more rainfall. Another danger on what had been good roads.

And an unrepaired sinkhole would just get bigger and bigger. Not to mention fallen trees, limbs, other debris.

Not to mention, do roads burn? I mean, if there's a horrific fire somewhere do they burn/melt too?

Specifically those with blacktop pavement. That shit burns if you get it real hot. I used to operate a petroleum fuels truck and one of my fellow drivers had a wreck. He rolled over with a full 8600 gallons of gas and lit up the whole four lanes of southbound I-5 near San Onofre. Melted the crap out of the road. All that was left of the truck were the heavy parts... axles, engine block, transmission and a couple chunks of the frame that all fit on a 24' flatbed. Traffic had to be diverted until the freeway was rebuilt.

I had to blend into a new team on a new truck.
