when we were kids Deb . We could see the fireworks at Kennywood from my Grandparents’ back yard. Sometimes burning paper from the fireworks would fly across the river and land in the yard!

Kennywood would put the fireworks cansisters on a barge in the Mongoahalia River. So you had the misfortune of getting that paper crap in your yard. PS I loved that Cox's had the bridal department on the top floor. with a window showing the dresses.

We'd look at dresses & I'd show her what I liked & then we'd go to the JCPenney sewing department & I'd pick out fabric & buttons & trim. My mother could sew anything. You should have seen the Barbie clothes she made. Little suits with notched collars, gowns, sports wear, pajamas, dresses. I kept them in this box I covered & lined with wrapping paper. I sold them at a yard sale when I was in my 20s. I wasn't sure I wanted to get rid of them so I priced them high & they were one of the first things to sell. She didn't even offer me less; she bought them all & said, "My girls are going to love these."

I like to think somewhere some girl still has them.
