Former Shasta County elections official Joanna Francescut sues county over firing
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — Former Shasta County Assistant Clerk and Registrar of Voters Joanna Francescut is suing the county, alleging she was wrongfully terminated after being fired from her position last year.
Francescut was dismissed on May 27, 2025, about two weeks after Clerk and Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis was appointed to the position. Curtis and Francescut are also opponents in the upcoming election for the office.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and alleges age, gender and religious discrimination, harassment and retaliation.
In a statement, Francescut said the lawsuit was filed before Election Day because the statute of limitations was nearing its deadline.
