'Human error' causes changes to Vigo election results, says clerk's office

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Clerk’s Office said that during an internal audit of the 2026 Indiana Primary Elections, “it was discovered that not all of the information that had been accounted for on Election Night was reflected in the unofficial report.”

The clerk’s office said that the information not accounted for in the report was due to a “human error.” Officials said around 1,900 ballots were not included in the unofficial report.

Clerk’s office officials did not clarify how or why the ballots were not included in the unofficial report.

Officials added that per Indiana law, there is a 10-day window for this process to take place prior to the certification of the election, and the results are still “unofficial” until they are certified. They added that the numbers could change again as qualified mail-in ballots are received.
