Wichita school staff push for building upgrades as bond election looms

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita Public Schools hosted its fourth Tour Tuesday at Black Traditional Magnet Elementary School on Tuesday.

The building is 72 years old, and the event highlighted several updates that the building needs. The event also allowed the district to share more information about the $615 million school bond that will be voted on in November.

Some of the building concerns mentioned by school staff include small classroom sizes, heating and air conditioning issues and sewage and plumbing problems.

Sky Hendricks, a kindergarten teacher at Black Elementary School, said the poor facilities affect her students.
