Frank White recall effort election date debate continues

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The two election boards tasked with overseeing the Frank White recall election are considering filing a lawsuit asking for more time to prepare.

One argument is that the short turnaround would violate state law on election notices.

State law requires that notice of an election must come 10 weeks in advance. In some cases, as little as eight weeks are allowed. A day after the Jackson County Legislature passed an ordinance and a resolution setting an election date of Aug. 26, only seven weeks remain.

If the election boards are waiting for the ordinance to be enacted before they make a move, they may have to wait until July 18, the final day for County Executive Frank White to decide to sign, veto or allow the ordinance to go through by doing nothing.
