Missouri's electricity bills to see highest spike in nation from Trump's 'Big, Beautiful Bill,' report says
MISSOURI, USA Missourians are already tired of price increases in their electricity bills, but a new national law is expected to skyrocket those costs.
A recent report from the Energy Innovation organization, a nonpartisan think tank focused on energy policy decisions, found that Trump's recently passed "Big, Beautiful Bill" will cause energy costs to spike across the country. The expected spike is reportedly driven by the law's repeal of energy tax credits and reduction of cost-effective electricity capacity.
Missouri's household energy bills will significantly increase because of the law, according to the report. Households will see a $130 annual increase in their power costs by 2030, rising to $640 by 2035.
Missouri's energy bill increases are also the highest in the nation, the report said. The only states that come close are Kentucky and South Carolina, both projected to have a $630 annual increase in household energy costs by 2035.
The report states Missouri's economy will also take a significant hit from the new law, estimating the state will see annual losses of $1.4 billion in GDP by 2030 and $3.5 billion by 2035 due to the state losing out on private investments driven by a decline in advanced manufacturing and a lack of new energy sources.
