Vernon County Commission approves hospital district ballot question for April election

NEVADA, MO. - (KOAM) — The Vernon County Commission approved a ballot question during a public meeting that will allow voters to decide on a proposed Vernon County Hospital District in the April 7 election.

The commission described the meeting as procedural, stating that Nevada Regional Medical Center followed proper guidelines by obtaining sufficient signatures on their petition to propose the district.

Despite the routine nature of the vote, an unusually large number of residents attended the meeting to voice their opposition to the commission's decision.

"I think there was a little misunderstanding that a lot of people thought we had more authority perhaps, than we did," Presiding Commissioner Joe Wilson said. "But I am glad that everyone turned out and, I think we had a good exchange of ideas and information and that's always good."
