Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed at Newark Liberty International Airport over the weekend and again on Monday as shortages of air traffic controllers persists, causing flight disruptions at one of the nations busiest airports.
As of 7 a.m. Monday, 73 flights had been canceled and 22 more delayed out of Newark Liberty. On Sunday, there were 141 cancellations and 436 delays, according to FlightAware.com.
United Airlines announced on Friday the elimination of nearly three dozen round-trip flights from its daily schedule in and out of Newark Airport due to continuing air traffic control staffing issue.
The airline also cited the technological problems that snarled airport operations last week, which included a telecommunications outage.
