Mission moves elections to November thanks to SB 447's passage

ore than a year after voters approved a proposition to move municipal elections to November, the city of Mission announced it is fulfilling their residents’ wishes following the passage of a bill last week.

Senate Bill 447 sought to address the city of Mission’s request to change the date on which it holds its general election from May to November.

“The city believes this change will provide increased opportunity for voters, which would be advantageous to the city, its residents, and the pursuit of democracy,” wrote the bill’s author, state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen.

Hinojosa filed the bill late last November, and now Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law June 20, and will go into effect Sept. 1.
