Mukilteo cameras go live to curb speeding on Speedway
EVERETT The city of Mukilteo began its new automatic traffic camera program on Friday in an attempt to curb speeding along Mukilteo Speedway.
The cameras will monitor the 7700, 2500 and 300 blocks of Mukilteo Speedway. The next 30 days will serve as a warning period for the cameras, the city said in a release. Another camera at the 9000 block of Mukilteo Speedway will be installed at a later date, the release said, with another grace period to follow. If a driver is caught speeding in one of the zones, the police department will send them a notice of infraction.
Speeding is a preventable cause of deadly collisions and life-altering injuries, Mukilteo Police Chief Andy Illyn wrote in a release. We look forward to bringing the latest technology to the City of Mukilteo in order to educate road users, enforce laws, and create a safer community for Mukilteos families and visitors.
The city chose the locations for the cameras based on traffic complaints, collision data and speed studies, a city website read. Violations should not affect insurance rates or a drivers record.
