No one would ever go back to the old system. I was 11 when the changeover happened and made a profit of 4c a day on bus fares for three of us to go to school due to conversion. I was laughing!

I had an autistic great-uncle....my grandma chided him for weeks about turning in any "old" cash - on the very day before the deadline he showed up with a big wad of cash he had saved in a shoebox, prompting grandma to absolutely lose it. I calmed her down by telling her a soliciter friend of hers could advise what to do (it all worked out fine)

Just barely remember that. I think I only knew about it because my brother, two years older, was interested in it and I had to know everything he did so I saw that because of his interest. I would have been nine then.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.

Tell me more...
