4. When a critter like this gets in the house,

I invert a small container over it (gelato containers are perfect), slide a piece of cardboard under it, and take it to the outdoor launch pad.

Works great.

5. sometimes they will take a drink of water from your finger

if you move slow. "hang" a drop from the end of a finger and move into front of face slowly.
