I turned to him and said, "Really?" (He's kind of a comedian; my girlfriend tells me she can tell when I'm talking to him on the phone because I'm always laughing.). He said, "Really." I asked him if he had a boyfriend and he replied in the affirmative. Then we went back to watching TV.

Maybe he was hoping to talk more about it? Sometimes parents need to realize that listening is the best gift we can give them.

But some of them are rather nice examples of architecture and artistry.

providing human species with the capacity for bonding with same sex partners

I don't really believe and I certainly don't know that God exists and has a particular set of rules that cause us to run against the inclinations she gave us.

She would know that any such capacity would be expressed in many people. Not by the fault of people, but by the diversity she created.
Why would a rational, loving, and fair God create churches that punish us for expressing the full range of her creation?

IMO this is evidence that God based western churches were created not by God but by people. People decided that that God should mostly bey JUST LIKE US, and capable of all our foibles, tricks, and petty jealousies and hatreds. Such a God seems quite UNreal, being probably created by HUMANS who wanted a God just like them, who priotitized all their interests in foible, tricks, petty jealousy and hatred.

I don't care which 'big R' Religion one chooses. It always requires leaps of just pure irrationality.

I have always believed that prevailing viewpoints of humans of the day, including biases against women and beliefs in superstition, influenced all of their stories and admonishments. They were also an effort to tell people how they should behave and essentially coerce them into following a prescribed set of beliefs. I have never been able to accept the notion of God telling people what to write, the divine inspiration.
