on a cold december day meeting the train alone unknown
an excitement tempered by fear carrying hidden emotions
unsure of this future greeting immature and barely grown
too ignorant to shed the tears too unsure to see the notion
along the long ride the landscape passes by dark and gray
over hungry hours indeterminate and an unread book open
in truth this soul seeks to escape calmly carefully put away
as false ideas form indiscriminate of dream rudely awoken
a colder arrival greets the train as winds bluster off the bay
pulling a thin coat ever tighter hair whips around the face
climb on a blue bus in the rain noisy hot in unshaped clay
full of bravado and blither angels or demons in god’s grace
ahead four years life or death and mother’s eternal prayers
water drips down from the lethe uncertain if i think or care
