hands tied and legs bound as the pendulum swings
grasp a last chance of hope gasp in one final breath
to wonder at the dull sound as a cracked bell rings
silent eyes wait expectantly cold and filled in greed
an empaneled jury of peers now stand statue rigid
reach doubt reluctantly seek gratification and need
from further back come jeers whispered icily frigid
caught in a savage moment between dark and light
the ticking clock stopped caught in the crux of time
wisps of a soul lying dormant prepare to take flight
precious stones have dropped into the life of slime
hints of rationality return a frozen minute released
touches the neck as it burns entropy has increased
