I once attended a funeral mass for a relative of an in-law. Seated right up front, the incense triggered his asthma. Kinda redirected focus from the ethereal to medical emergency, but he recovered quickly. My point, if there is one, is that people with respiratory issues might consider sitting in back or away from the aisle.

On edit: Sometimes it has to do with the fragrance of the incense. I was never particularly fond of the heavy pine/woodsy ones. I usually gifted rose or light floral scented ones to church.
