I spent 2 years in Japan during my second tour of duty with the Air Force nurse corps, 1978-79, and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I explored as much as I could.

Before I arrived at the base, I'd been told that you could see Mt. Fuji from there. When I got there, I couldn't see it anywhere. Not realizing that the skies had been quite overcast, it was a delightful shock a couple of days later when the sky was clear, and BOOM, there it was in its full majesty. A truly glorious sight that I never tired of.

And the cherry blossoms!

To this day, a bowl of miso soup has a very calming effect on me, and I would eat sushi every day if I could afford to.
